πŸ’ You’re engaged... now what?
A guide to what comes next after saying “YES!”
From DJ Tommy Scott

First off… congratulations! This is such an exciting season, and it can also feel a little overwhelming once the celebration settles and you start wondering, “Okay… what do we do now?”

Here’s a simple timeline to help you know what usually comes next after getting engaged:

1. Enjoy the moment
Before diving into checklists and spreadsheets, take a little time to soak it all in. Celebrate with each other, tell family and friends, and enjoy being newly engaged.

2. Talk about the big picture
Start with the basics:

  • What kind of wedding do you want?
  • Big or small?
  • Formal or fun and relaxed?
  • Local or destination?
  • What season feels right?

Getting on the same page early makes every next step easier.

3. Set a rough budget
This doesn’t have to be perfect right away, but having a starting point helps guide venue choices, guest count, and vendors.

4. Draft your guest list
You do not need every name finalized yet, but a rough guest count is important because it affects almost everything else.

5. Pick a timeframe or wedding date
Some couples choose a meaningful date. Others choose a season first and stay flexible. Either way, this helps narrow down venue and vendor availability.

6. Book your venue
Your venue is one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle. Once that is locked in, the rest of your planning gets much easier.

7. Book key vendors early
The most in-demand vendors often book well in advance, especially for popular dates. Your priority list usually includes:

  • Venue
  • DJ/MC
  • Photographer
  • Videographer
  • Planner or coordinator
  • Photo Booth

8. Start thinking about the flow of the day
Even early in the process, it helps to picture the experience:

  • Ceremony
  • Cocktail hour
  • Reception
  • Dancing
  • Special moments

This is where entertainment really matters. A great DJ does more than play music — they help guide the energy of the whole night.

9. Choose your wedding style and details
Now the fun part starts coming together:

  • Colors
  • Decor
  • Dress and attire
  • Invitations
  • Flowers
  • Personal touches

10. Use planning tools and keep it simple
Wedding planning does not have to feel chaotic. A good timeline, a few trusted vendors, and clear planning tools can make the process a lot less stressful.

Your engagement season should be exciting, not overwhelming. Take it one step at a time, ask questions, and build a team that helps make the process easier.

If you’re looking for a wedding DJ who can help with the music, announcements, and flow of the reception, I’d love to help.
